I’m learning the trucking business and want to know how many pallets will fit in a 48 ft (basic dry van) and a 53 ft truck. Also, if you do know can you break it down – as in I know you can ‘pinwheel’, go straight in, and put one row sideways. I also know some trailers are 102" and I think 98" so that makes a difference too. Is there anyway to find this info and have it all make sense? Thanks
The standard size for a pallet is 48×45. In a 53 foot truck you can fit 26 pallets in total, 13 on each side. double stacked that’s 52.
In a 48 foot truck its 24 skids, 12 on each side. double stacked that’s 48. This is will all pallets loaded side ways. The pin wheel method is only worth doing if the load is double stacked and unstableand needs to be loaded tightly. If the load is stable enough loading them all on sideways is just fine and not so time consuming.
Good Luck.

We just started our home-based trucking company and we want to earn more money by engaging in the "broker" side of the trucking business. My father drives and I handle the business part. What would be the easiest/safiest route to take?
Associations may be a good avenue to explore. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you’ll inevitably have as well as many you haven’t anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.
Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:
* Start Your Own Freight Brokerage Business by Entrepreneur Press
* A Practical Guide to Transportation and Logistics by Michael B. Stroh
I also posted links to some free articles in the source box.
Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

I’d like to starta food truck business in Maryland. Where do I begin to find out about laws, permits, regulations etc?
From your local municipality. there are State minimums then each municipality can add to that
You first need a business permit before commencing. Most municipalities limit the number of permits issued and you get on the waiting list if the quota is already satisfied. They will give a list of the regulations, limitations and inspections needed
